Ice Tigers Are Champions Yet Again

Hudson Honeybone, 26

Wednesday night, the Ensworth Ice Tigers won their second consecutive state championship, finishing the year with a flawless, undefeated record of 17-0-2. This marks the first perfect GNASH season in over 15 years. Last night, Nolensville defensemen Henry Cravens opened the scoring in the first period with a lazerbeam top left over the blocker. After scoring once more in the second, the Ice Tigers held a commanding 2-0 lead but allowed the Raptors to regain momentum after an untimely shorthand goal. The shorty was soon followed up with yet another goal from the Raptors, tying the game at 2 for the rest of regulation.

Despite the growing fatigue of both teams, 5-on-5 overtime was still energetic and eventful, with solid chances from both sides in the first 10 minutes. With 5 minutes remaining, Ensworth winger Trex Hooper broke free in the neutral zone, creating a 2 on 0 with the Raptors goaltender. After the selling shot, Trex slid the puck cross-crease to Nolensville center Spencer Kern for an easy backdoor tap in, capping off the Ice Tigers season with yet another ring. After an absolutely stellar performance, goaltender Bingston Soundara was awarded the GNASH MVP with over 45 saves in the championship game.

What’s Next

As of now, the future of the IceTigers remains uncertain. The GNASH board has elected to divide our dominant CO-OP with Nolensville and Lipscomb. Losing our partnership is a significant hit to the team, as many of our most prominent players hail from Nolensville. Though a three peat would indeed be unprecedented and legendary, it now poses even more of a challenge.
