With the school year coming to a close, a new chapter in The Ensider is beginning. Continue reading to hear more about the new direction and leadership of Ensworth’s newspaper.
The biggest change for the newspaper next year will be that Mrs. Towle will no longer be the teacher of the class, as she is taking on two new English electives and acting as the new English Dept Chair. With big shoes to fill, Mrs. Bahr will be the new newspaper teacher. To get an idea of what the class will look like in the future, Mrs. Bahr was asked a series of questions about her plans for the class and students next year.
Mrs. Bahr first explained how she acquired her new position. After strong recommendations from Mrs. Hubert and Mr. Hesse, Mrs. Bahr was clearly the perfect candidate for the job. While admitting that she is a little nervous after Mrs. Towle’s incredible leadership in the class, she is truly very excited! Mrs. Bahr expressed her strong belief in the importance of research, as well as her previous work with Mrs. Hubert and Mr. Jacoboice on the “Honors Research and Writing” History elective a few years ago. Mrs. Bahr hopes that the student-writers will begin seeking new sources of information, such as databases, interviews, and surveys, to support their writing and research.
As for changes to the curriculum and the direction of the newspaper, Mrs. Bahr is unsure yet. After a meeting with the 2025-2026 Newspaper Staff, along with Mrs. Towle, a clear direction will be established, although Mrs. Bahr already has a couple of ideas. She wants the students to cover the events that take place at Ensworth, rather than the students writing about pop culture or other similar topics. With coverage of Ensworth’s sports and arts programs and events, the Ensworth community will benefit from the newspaper. As Mrs. Bahr pointed out, there are twenty-four athletic teams, three sports seasons, three plays, a dance concert, a musical, and two art shows that have received minimal coverage from The Ensider. While she still gives credit to other categories of writing, she hopes to improve in this area.
We are gonna miss Mrs. Towle so much; this new era for The Ensider looks both promising and exciting!
